Lets get the FUN back into Fund Raising
Winelands SPCA receives funding from the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund for specific projects and from the Municipality for the collection and care of stray dogs. All other expenses have to be covered by our own fund-raising efforts, through our much valued volunteers. A number of these volunteers also work with the animals, in support of and under the guidance of the staff. Contact us if you would like to find out more. For a small annual subscription of R75 per family or R50 per individual, you can become a member of Winelands SPCA. This entitles you to vote at the AGM and to receive a quarterly news letter. The funds from these subscriptions are much needed and appreciated. A membership form can be posted, faxed or emailed on request.
FUN WITH THE HSUS PHOTO CONTEST
PLEASE VOTE FOR JABULANI - hsi.org/photocontest
February is World Sterilising Month organised by the Humane Society of America. All paticipating societies, world wide, have the opportunity to raise funds to cover the cost of sterilising pets, to reduce the huge number unwanted puppies and kittens.
WSPCA is part of this project and funds are raised by people voting at $5 a time for our photographic entrant in the competition. For more information, go to hsi.org/photocontest and click on Search Pets. Our entrant - see picture above- is Jabulani. We need lots of votes in order to cover the cost of a dedicated HSUS sterilising Day. Last year we raised over $900 dollars and hope to improve on that this year. You may vote in South African rands by simply phoning or emailing us. Any amount is acceptable from R5.00 upwards!
FUN ON A WONDERFUL SATURDAY
With a Rumble and a Roar, over 30 bikes arrived at Winelands SPCA on Saturday 29th October. Staff and volunteers were waiting, but none of us expected such a generous donation of pet food, medical supplies and toys. Our thanks in bucket loads go to the Cape Town Motorbike Club for their kindness.
FUN AT THE 2011 ROBERTSON SHOW
| The show was quieter than usual, but R1697 was raised, thanks to the visitors to our stand. The WSPCA 2012 calendars were on sale, plus two raffles, one for "grown ups" and one for children and some fun singing animals. The main purpose of working at the show is educational, but we always aim to at least cover our costs. This was achieved and more. |
FUN AT THE 2011 MUTTS MARCH, raising a wonderful R3430.
On Heritage Day, 24th September, dogs and their humans gathered at the Montagu Nature Garden for what has become an annual treat for all dog lovers. The weather was perfect, there was a choice of walks for the energetic and the more laid back, and at around midday a picnic was served and fun prizes were handed out. The hospitality of the Nature Garden committee is very much appreciated.
The picture below shows a laughing "Bruno" receiving his prize for the youngest dog to complete the long walk. Bruno is only 5 months old. His back leg was broken when he was brought to the SPCA (see picture further down of leg 3!). He has made a complete recovery and he is waiting and hoping for a home of his own.
